UCOP PPS - Secure TN3270 Connection Announcement
Beginning July 1, 2004, C&C will begin support for encrypted TN3270 connectivity to the UCOP MVS mainframe applications. For a period of two months, both unsecure and secure connections will be accepted. After September 1, 2004, only SSL-encrypted connectivity will be allowed for connections to UCOP's IBM applications, including Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) ( uccmvsb.ucop.edu , port 992) .
Please note, if you are using only the PPS website as a reviewer you will automatically be redirected to UCOP's secure web server and no other changes will need to be made.
There are a number of options for connecting to UCOP's mainframe with a secure client via both PC and Macintosh computers.
If you already are running a program such as TN3270 or QWS3270, a free add-on is available to you for downloading which makes your programs SSL capable. For those who have already downloaded and installed IBM's Host On Demand (HOD) version 7.0.3 software, you must download version 8.0.2 for the SSL 3270 connection. This version is available for both PC and Macintoshes. However, there is a license fee to download and install this product, the cost is $83 the first year and $20 per year after maintenance fee. To download and install this product you simply go to http://hod.ucop.edu . This site performs an automatic download to your system, just follow the screen prompts by clicking Yes to install and restart your browser. After your browser is restarted the URL for accessing the new secure site is http://hod.ucr.edu . The website brings up four different IBM connections with UCRIBM included.
